The EMT training programs for certification vary widely between courses, provided that each course must at least meet local and national requirements. In the United States, EMRs receive at least 40 hours of80 hours of classroom training and EMT receive at least 120 hours of 300 hours of classroom training. AEMT usually has 200 500-hour training, and Paramedics is trained for 1,500,500 hours or more. In addition to the academic education of each level, clinical rotation is also often required. Similar to the medical school clinic, EMT students are required to spend the necessary amount of time in an ambulance and various hospital services (e.g. obstetrics, emergency, surgery, intensive care unit, psychiatry) to complete a course and become eligible for the certification exam.
